2016 Oscar Nominations Dress Challenge

It's that time of year again and YEAR 6 with this contest! I need help finding a dress for Oscar Nominations morning on January 14, 2016.  It's early again this year and we are going to have to do this over the Christmas break. Remember though, the winner gets a $25 gift certificate to the store of their choice. For those of you that are new to this challenge, YOU get to chose the dress that I wear for a one of Hollywood's biggest events.

Here are some guidelines:

1.  It is not a red carpet event: I am looking for a dress that is simple, classic and understated.  Think of a DVF wrap dress or a Jackie O. sheath.  I am short (5' 3"), so I want to show off my legs versus lots of cleavage (which I don't have anyway) to give the illusion of height.  I love shoes, so I want to pick something hot and sassy from my shoe wardrobe.  One note:  Even though I want a dress to show off my legs, please no so-short-I-can-see-your-hoo-ha dresses.  The Oscar Nominations are a very conservative event, so I'd like to keep it that way.

2.  I will be working at 5AM PT that day: I want a dress that is easy, comfortable and not fussy.  I hate pulling and tugging at my dress while I am working. Also, I LOVE pockets!

3.  I like color: It looks great on camera and adds brightness to my face.  Please avoid red or crazy patterns because they have a tendency to moray on camera. I've done two blues, two purples and a hot pink, so maybe a green, orange or yellow this year?

4.  The budget is important.  Let's keep the dress under $250 and it has to be available online in sizes 0 or 2.

Here are the winners from 2011-2015 to give you an idea of what has won in the past:

  1. Once again, I had too much fun picking out dresses, so I made a Pinterest board complete with some commentary about each dress. Each pin links to the site to buy the dress, but if you want the links here in the comments, let me know and I can surely provide them. :) Thanks for doing this! I have too much fun styling people, so I appreciate the opportunity!

    1. Added 2 dresses to my board that I came across today:

    2. Added a couple more. I keep finding dresses I like. I can't help it!

  2. A Classic. Tahari Seamed A-Line Dress - I like emerald green, but many colors available. Available in petite. Great opportunity to accessorize.

    1. Hi Unknown! Makes sure to leave your name, so I know who this is. :)

    2. My name's Julie. Not a techie. Thought my name would appear.

  3. Kelly- it's a little higher in price but I have never seen you in a dress like this. It would be lovely on you.

    1. Love that dress! It's perfect for the red carpet. Nominations are a bit more sequins or sparkle. But I need to bookmark it for future use. :)

  4. Hi! Merry Merry Christmas and good luck finding a dress. Here are some ideas for you:

What a splash this would make and look at that collar:

Wow, so classy and so elegant:

Oh, how I love this. It doesn’t come in your size as of right now, but, I’m submitting it anyway just in case they restock:

Another lovely I can’t get enough of looking at. I love the belt...

  5. And some more....

Nude is so huge. I can’t resist throwing this Ellen Tracy design in. Classy and so elegant:

This one looks so comfortable and so classy....

How I loveee the lace and black and gold! So stunning:

And just one more I keep going back to. I love the metallic lines on black and the way the upper half is done....

And those are my new submissions in the new Kristyn Burtt 2016 Oscar Nominations Dress Challenge! XOXOXoxx

  6. Just a few more from a completely different source with slightly longer lengths:

I love the chiffon in this...

Ok, I'm done I think. lol xx

    Lisa aka Voguerista

  7. Sorry...I forgot this one;

  8. I'm thinking green for this year. A couple of these have pockets

This one is very simply and understated.

On sale this one in price range.

I like this very understated. Doesn't seem like a bridesmaids dress but you can get in any color you like.

    I liked the lace.

And this was the first dress I saw that thought would look good on you. Lace again and no pockets but cute.

If you have problems with links let me know. Good luck. And thanks for opportunity. Xoxo
    Karen Gross
