Top 3 Looks From The 2012 Cannes Film Festival

The 2012 Cannes Film Festival has come and gone, but this red carpet is equally as important to fashion as the Academy Awards and the Met Ball.  Female stars are expected to bring their A-game and it is imperative for stylists to treat this red carpet with a European sophistication and elegance.  This year brought out the best in three women who stood out amongst the rest.  Take a look at my Top 3 Looks from Cannes:

1.  Nicole Kidman:  Nicole has always been one who takes fashion risks that sometimes pay off and other times they are disastrous, but I always like that she's willing to try. I love that she's back on the red carpet and in color.  For a long time, she has been washed out in white, beige, and black, so I am glad she realized it was time to bag the neutrals and wow us with a gorgeous dusty rose gown. I am a fan of the asymmetrical lines to the top of the gown that swoops around to reveal an open back with the crystal detailing. Here are the details on the dress:

Designer: Lanvin/Custom Made by Alber Elbaz
Jewelry:  Cartier

2.  Reese Witherspoon:  Does this woman know how to do pregnancy on the red carpet or what? Reese has hit two major red carpet events with sophisticated elegance and grace.....and a growing baby bump.  Reese has also been hit or miss for me in the past, but I think she's feeling great right now and it's showing in her recent public appearances.  The color and slit up the front are winners for me, but like Nicole, it's the back of the gown that adds a bit of drama to complete the ensemble.  Here are the details on the dress:

Designer:  Custom-made Atelier Versace
Jewelry: Chopard
Shoes:  Versace

3.  Eva Longoria:  Okay, I am never a fan of her red carpet looks.  Eva is very petite and I feel like she dresses in gowns overwhelming on her tiny frame.  Well, not this time.  Eva was dressed by Michael Angel, L'Oreal Paris' official stylist.  Eva was there as the official ambassador for the brand at the film festival. She had several wonderfully divine looks that enhanced her natural beauty and they did not overwhelm her small frame, but this one was my favorite. The train of the dress reminds me of the Versace dress Penelope Cruz wore the year she was nominated for the film, Volver.  Here are the details of her dress:

Designer:  Marchesa

What do you think of my Top 3 choices? Did I hit the mark or did I miss someone?

The Friday Five: May 25th

1.  AfterBuzzTV:  I recently joined the crew over at AfterBuzzTV and last night was my first episode for the So You Think You Can Dance recap.  I will be on each week for Season 9 giving you my insight and opinions on the show.  We will have several guests from previous seasons and you can call in to offer your thoughts on each episode.  Here is the link for last night's podcast, I hope to have the YouTube link up before the end of the weekend.  *Update: Here it is!*

2.  Great Gatsby:  Last week, I showed you the trailer for the upcoming campy musical, Rock of Ages. This week, I have a little more serious fare for you to take a look at, Great Gatsby.  It's been awhile since we have seen a true Baz Luhrmann film, but here it is in all it's glory with colorful sets, costumes, and the all important soundtrack.  Take a look at the trailer and let me know if you are as excited as I am to see this movie.  Be patient, you have to wait until Thanksgiving.

3.  The Hardy Boys:  If you have some free time this weekend, catch up on this episode of The Hardy Boys with a Nancy Drew cameo.  It's an episode entitled, "Mystery of the Hollywood Phantom", so it's a great opportunity to see what Los Angeles looked like in in the 1970s.  I am such a fan of Hollywood history and this episode has it all:  Dennis Weaver, Jaws, Casey Kasem, a poster promoting Robert Blake as Baretta, and a pinkie ring on Shaun Cassidy that is to die for.  "Da Do Ron Ron" forever!

4.  Disney: I've told you countless times how big of a Disney Dork I am, so it will come as no surprise that I finally bought an Annual Pass.  Now that I am off of the road nonstop, I want to do something that makes me really happy:  visiting Mickey Mouse and the gang whenever possible.  So, I am sure you will see more photos from the Happiest Place on Earth.  Remember, you have been warned!

5. Fashion:  I talked about this outfit here, so I just wanted to give you the update on how it all came together....Betsey Johnson dress with my Charles David neon blue shoes at the Gracie Awards on Tuesday.  I am going to alter the dress by pulling up the hem over the knee to show off a little leg for the next time I wear it, but I thought it was fun outfit to wear for a night celebrating women's achievements in the media.  I will have more scoop on that event next week.

In the meantime, have a great holiday weekend:  be safe, relax, and enjoy a tasty treat or two.  See you on Monday!

Bunheads Sneak Preview

For my ABC family fans who are looking for a replacement for the recently ended series, Make It Or Break It, check out a sneak peek of the pilot, Bunheads, starring Broadway darling, Sutton Foster.  The series is written by one of my favorite TV writers, Amy Sherman-Palladino, of Gilmore Girls fame.  I watched the pilot which I think has potential once the cast and writers get their rhythm going and the creepy (meaning creepy/weird) premise of getting a city gal into a country setting washes away.  (You will see what I mean once you watch the show.)  As a Gilmore Girls geek, I was thrilled to see Kelly Bishop back on my TV screen. It's genius that Sherman-Palladino cast two Tony Award winners, Foster and Bishop:  the former hot off of Anything Goes and the latter a part of the legendary cast of A Chorus Line.

The link to the pilot was provided to me by The Hollywood Reporter.  Password is THRBunheads and it is case sensitive.  There are only a limited number of views left, so check it out and let me know what you think. Do you think the show has potential?  Or do you think the icky start to the relationship is a little odd?

Go, watch, comment below or here or here.

Bunheads premieres on ABC Family on June 11th.

Dan Harmon Interview About 'Community'

Jim Rash with Dan Harmon at Paley Fest in March.

When you interview someone, you never know how circumstances will change over the course of several months.  When I interviewed Dan Harmon at Paley Fest 2012 back in March, the big news was about the return of Community to the NBC lineup after an unplanned hiatus. Well, several events including a public spat with Chevy Chase lead to his dismissal from the show last week.  Watch my interview with Dan before he was let go from the show:

I would love to hear your thoughts about the controversy.  Hit me up on Twitter or Facebook.

Air Fest 2012: Thunder Over The Empire

I don't come from a military family, so when I am thrown into situations with lots of servicemen and women, I am always fascinated by their jobs, their lives, and how differently their world operates since they are a big part of a government structure.  This weekend, I had the opportunity to emcee over at the Air Fest at the March Air Force Base in Moreno Valley.  I haven't seen anything like this in my life.  The show was breathtaking, amazing, and scary all at once.  Add this to your bucket list.  You won't be disappointed.  Just remember, it's hot and there is very little shade on the air fields, so water and sunscreen are your friends.  Here are some photos from my weekend:

Don't be confused, I did retire from Toyota.  I made a cameo appearance for the client to emcee the event. I still love the brand and I am happy to help out from time to time.

Many of these photos were taken with Instagram. Make sure to follow my adventures there:  @KristynBurtt

The Friday Five

Well, it's been quite a week here at Red Carpet Closet!  I've answering your comments and Tweets all day, you are keeping me busy and I like it.  Keep it up!  We chatted about baby bumps, Thor, life after porn, and beauty.  Here are a few other things you may have missed:

1.  Dark Shadows: I saw the movie on Sunday night and as a fan of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, I was a little disappointed.  Find out why in the article I wrote for Fanboy Comics this week.

2.  Giveaway:  We have TWO winners!  Congratulations to Karen W. who won the gift bag and to Maureen G. who won the Sanuk footwear.  Make sure to take a photo and I will post it.

3. Viral Video:  I caught the battle of the "Call Me Maybe" covers.  I know the Harvard boys started it first, but I think the SMU ladies win for their upside-down creativity.  It's going to be hard to get this song out of your head, I'm warning you.

4.  Munich:  I'm going to Germany for a job in August, so I plan on spending some time in the country after the job ends.  Where should I go? What should I do?  Most importantly, what should I eat and wear should I shop?  I am open to suggestions, so let me know in the comments below or on Faceook or Twitter.

5.  Rock of Ages:  I am not a fan of Tom Cruise--never have been even going back to his Top Gun days. THIS movie has me excited and it's starring Tom Cruise along with a whole host of familiar faces including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, and Julianne Hough.  It looks spectacularly cheesy and I can't wait to see it.  Watch the trailer and tell me if this looks like a campy disaster.  The film opens June 15th.

Have a great weekend!  See you all on Monday.
