Erin Andrews on DWTS: My Thoughts

When The Big Lead report leaked out yesterday that Erin Andrews was going to replace Brooke Burke-Charvet as Tom Bergeron's co-host on DWTS, Twitter went nuts. Based on the responses I received, it was about 75% against Erin and only about 25% for Erin. That's not a good place to start. However, I am going to give her a chance, here's why:

1. Behind the Scenes: Even though Tom is more than capable of running the show himself, ABC clearly wants to showcase the behind-the-scenes interviews and he can't be everywhere. That's where Erin will come into play.

2. Interviews: I know that I made a remark more than once last season on AfterBuzz TV about Brooke's interviewing skills. Sometimes, I cringed. Erin is an excellent sports journalist who will bring her reporter skills to the table. I'm looking forward to some solid questions this season instead of "How do you feel?"

3. Personality: Look, I get it. Erin is a guy's girl. She works in a tough industry for females and she has a harder edge to her. However, she will bring some sass and snap to the table. Erin doesn't have a soft and fuzzy warmth, but I think she will have us all talking on Tuesdays about what happened the night before.

So, let's give her a chance. We haven't seen what she is capable of yet, but I welcome the change and the season debut of DWTS.

What do you think about Erin Andrews new gig? Let me know in the comments below.

  2. Though I will miss Brooke and feel bad that they axed her just like that. It's a HUGE upgrade for the show. I'm just happy that BTS won't be deleted from the show. Hopefully. I met Erin in 2012 at the NCAA Final Four in NOLA. She's very sweet in person. I told her that she was one of my role models and asks me if I wanted to go into sports. I told her yeah bc I have a lot of interest in sports like Hollywood entertainment. She also said I was very sweet.

    1. The axing did seem a bit abrupt, but Erin brings more skills to the table. I look forward to her debut in a few weeks. We have to at least give her a chance, right?

    2. Why do some fans of the show still hold a grudge over Erin on what happened on season 10? People need to let go what happened in the past and move on.

  3. I'm a Big sports fan as well, And already know the kind of work Erin did in college sports on the pro ranks and how hard she worked to get a spot to host a pre show. There is know question Erin will do fine, She is a very different lady than Brook and brings a load of experience with interview skills, I was never a huge fan of Brook although I think she did an OK job and yes I do have to say the axing was very abrupt.

    1. Hi Ron! Well, if Erin can handle Richard Sherman, she sure can handle pros and celebs. Plus, she's already been a contestant, so there is very little learning curve as to what the show is about. I'm not worried about this change honestly.

  4. My husband & I always thought Brooke was SO awkward as an interviewer and terrible performing live! I thought they should've replaced her long ago & my husband used to ask for Samantha to come back. However, perhaps the way ABC/DWTS handled this was a bit unfortunate for Brooke - so close to the new season announcement & abrupt (from what it seems like - who knows for real what happened behind the scenes...) So the only thing I feel badly about for Brooke is the timing though, not her getting fired. If she wasn't good at her job, she should be replaced.

If DWTS wanted to cut costs, they should've just left Tom as a single host - he is more than capable & he truly is the best at live TV. So I don't think this is all a money issue.

I think Erin is a good and interesting choice. The Erin choice makes me think ABC/DWTS is trying to fix the complaints people had about Brooke - she's robotic, she's not good live, she's not a good interviewer - Erin has experience in these areas, so she's gotta be better than Brooke in the function for which they were hired, which is on-the-spot interviewing right after a couple dances. So I'm hopeful for Erin. (Plus, I really liked her personality in season 10!)

It's unfortunate that Twitter was 75% against her, but then again I don't really think that necessarily is the real public opinion because people tend to tweet complaints more than praise, especially immediately after news.

I hope you can get Erin on your DWTS AfterBuzz show once the season begins! I think it'll be awesome to hear her opinion! =)

    1. Brooke's firing did seem abrupt, but I know she has plenty of opportunities ahead of her. We would love to get Erin on AfterBuzz…that would be a real coup!

  5. They needed the change of replacing Brooke...but the abrupt nature of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Brooke was "nice" but she didn't bring much to the table and often times ground the momentum of the moment to a halt with her questions. I'm willing to give Erin a chance...I don't think it could have gotten worse.

I was also the first to criticize the live singers but was surprised when ABC actually fired the band. Some of the changes are a bit surprising but they seem to be smart moves...i.e. Ray Chew is a great replacement.

It seems like a lot of these decisions are based on $. When it comes to t.v., that is all that matters. I will reserve judgment until I see how this all works. Last season's "glitter pit" and where is waldo/brooke reporting was useless and added nothing to the show. At least these changes make sense and address areas people have been complaining about for several seasons now.

    1. I hope that glitter pit disappears for S18. I am looking forward to the changes. We will probably like some and not like others, but we still get to see some great dancing each week!

  6. Here's a question for you Kristyn, Do we know what Pro's are back this season, who may not be back, anyone new?
