2013 Emmys Red Carpet: A Splash of Pretty

The Emmys were over three hours of a total hot mess. I can't even begin to tell you the worst moment. I tweeted over five hours of it. I'm exhausted.

So let's talk about the pretty.

1. Anna Gunn: If you're expected to win, always pick a classic gown that will look great 20 years from now. It's not the year to go avant garde or too haute couture. Gunn was spot on in her gorgeous  Romona Keveza dress. Congratulations on your win!

2. Christina Hendricks: She always strikes the right balance of enhancing her assets and not showing off too much. A perennial classy red carpet dresser and a top girl crush for me. Christian Siriano is her go-to designer and it's a great partnership.

3. Allison Williams: In a year littered with pastels and every shade of purple, it was refreshing to see this blue pop of color by the Girls star. The silhouette was extremely simple, but it worked in that perfect Ralph Lauren way.

4. Sarah Silverman: It might not be the night's most sophisticated gown, but it's definitely the most affordable dress on that red carpet tonight. The comedian wore a $110 Deadly Dames "Vamp" dress. Funny ladies aren't usually red carpet standouts, but I think she looks great. For shoe lovers, look at the curve of those sky-high stilettos...sexy!

5. Aaron Paul and wife Lauren Parsekian: I accidentally stumbled into their rehearsal dinner at Chateau Marmont earlier this year. Let me tell you that their constant lovebird gushing is not an act. They were the prettiest couple on the red carpet at the Emmys. In fact, he calls his wife "pretty bird." Swoon.

Media Mondays...on a Tuesday

Just a small camera for shooting...

I had plans to post this yesterday, but given the day's events...it just didn't matter. For those of you that don't know, I am from the Boston-area.  While I have adopted California as my home state, I often spent my Marathon Mondays in the city cheering on the runners as a kid.  Patriot's Day is only celebrated in Massachusetts and Maine honoring the beginning of the American Revolution.  It's a huge part of life in the state and everyone that was out there celebrating the day or who has lived for a time in the state understands that.  My thoughts are with everyone who was affected by this senseless tragedy.

Leave it to Patton Oswalt to be the voice of reason in a day filled with questions:  "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Now, here are my media appearances from last week:

AfterBuzz TV's Dancing with the Stars:  If you are looking for the our Week 4 interview with Victor Ortiz, you will find the fun photo and the video here.

Tom Barnard Podcast:  We talked about Jon Hamm's junk...it's reportedly big and AMC is forcing the Mad Men actor to wear underwear this season. It's distracting.  Listen in at the 40:00 mark.

It's A Wrap!:  I was lucky enough to do two more episodes of the ClevverMovies series with Erin Darling, Josh Ovenshire, and Ryan Turek.  The top episode, we talk about the Deadpool property and if it will ever be turned into a film especially since it has Ryan Reynolds attached.  The bottom video features the 2015 Disney movie slate. Can anyone else compete with so many amazing movies on deck?

The Radio Dish:  I come in at the 22:00 minute mark where we address the Buckwild cancellation after the death of Shain Gandee. No one saw it coming, particularly the Buckwild producer.

SheKnows:  Some of my favorite articles from last week--
Kelly Ripa on Regis Philbin: "I haven't seen him, no."--It's not much of a surprise that these two no longer keep in touch, no?
Decorating guru Nate Berkus is engaged--We are seeing lots of celeb couples announce their engagement in anticipation of the Supreme Court ruling about Prop 8.  Hopefully, it is overturned. It's time.
5 Great indie flicks you won't see at the MTV Movie Awards--I compiled a list of 2012 indie films you should see. Don't miss these gems.

Don't forget about our DWTS after show tomorrow night at 9pm PT on AfterBuzzTV.com.

The Finalists: Oscar Nominations Dress

It's year 3 of my Oscar Nominations Dress Challenge! Is your dress among the finalists?  Here are this year's two finalists chosen for very different reasons:

1.  Dress 1:  Shabby Apple
This is a shape that I don't normally choose, but I like the elegance of it.  It's simple yet perfect for the tradition of the Oscar nominations.  My only concern is if this color will wash me out on camera, but like Jennifer said when she submitted this dress, "I know you want bright colors, but I love the lightness and texture on this- maybe have some deep red lipstick in hand? A la old Hollywood."

2.  Dress 2:  ModCloth
ModCloth was a runner-up in 2011, but the fit was a bit off.  Let's hope this year I got it right.  The color is great for camera and it has a bit of Mad Men glamour that is perfect for the sophistication of the event that morning.  As Robin also mentioned when she submitted this dress on Facebook, "They have wonderful good looks - really affordable too!"

Both dresses should arrive next week just in time for the Oscar Nominations.  Which one is your favorite?

Vote below and be sure to see the dress I choose on Thursday, January 10! Winner receives a $25 gift certificate to the store of their choice. Good luck!

Ever Eden Event

On Monday, I was invited to check out the jewelry line, Ever Eden, which is featured on the Glamhouse site where you can find other jewelry lines like House of Harlow 1960 and Belle Noel.  The event was held at one of my favorite beauty places in LA, Blushington, so the night was filled with jewelry, beauty, champagne, and candy.   I am a huge fan of rings, so I was excited to see the wraparound fan piece in an Art Deco design.  It was the first thing that caught my eye when I walked in until I turned around and saw significant cuffs and necklaces.  The perfect pieces to create bold statements with a simple outfit. Take a look at the line and tell me which piece is your favorite. I've been wearing my favorite cuff all week.

For more information on Ever Eden,  click here.

My "before" photo at Blushington.....

The "after" photo with my cat eyes.  A perfect Mad Men look for the red lips I was already sporting.

I couldn't take my eyes off of this silver cuff.

Look what showed up in my gift bag--the silver cuff!  I happily wore the cuff on air last night at AfterBuzz TV.  Photo taken on Instagram:  @KristynBurtt

I was invited to the complimentary event by BWR PR and the silver cuff was gifted to me.  All opinions are my own.

The Friday Five: June 8th

It's time to wrap up the week with the Friday Five after a busy first part of the week and then two days in bed with a cold. (Boo!)  Here's what's been happening this week:

1.  AfterBuzz TV:  I'm really enjoying my weekly wrap-up show for SYTYCD every Wednesday night with AJ Gibson.  We talk dance, choreography, and a little bit of gossip on the show.  I know it runs really late for those of you on the East Coast, so you can listen to the podcast from Wednesday here.  I will let you know when the video is available.  Watch each week LIVE on AfterBuzz TV.

2.  Wreck-It Ralph:  I saw a sneak preview of this Pixar film at last year's D23 conference and at E3 this year, they released the full trailer.  I think this is going to a Must See on my summer movie list because it pays homage to the classic video games of my youth done in a way only Pixar can create.  How about you?
Wearing my Lotus Premium Denim at the Let It Shine premiere on Tuesday.

3.  Lotus Premium Denim:  When I attended the GBK Productions Gifting Suite last week, the ladies at Lotus Premium Denim hooked me up with a complimentary pair of their jeans. I chose a pair of the dark wash since they look better on camera, but they also have a more hipster vintage line that I loved too. They just make your butt look good and who doesn't want that? Head on over to their Facebook page and tell them KB sent you.

4.  Cleaning Out the Clutter:  I've talked about cleaning out my house a million times before.  I like a very minimalist house, so being home always encourages me to clean and sell what I don't need anymore. (By the way, a few new dresses went up this week!) So, I love it when I open a box and find gems like this video with my Toyota Live co-host.  We shot this in September 2007 in Hawaii to honor Toyota's 50th Anniversary in the U.S.  Enjoy the wardrobe, it's the best part of the video.

5. Sex And The City (SATC):  I won't ever let this show die, will I?  Yes, I am fan who has watched each episode at least five times.  Lately, I have noticed that many of the episodes are starting to show their age and look really dated.  Well, I am not the only one, seems like BuzzFeed had the same idea, but they take it a step further.  Read their article:  "28 Ways Sex and The City Would be Different If It Were On TV Now".  It's hilarious and a worthy read for any SATC fan.

Have a great weekend!  I have a Mad Men party to attend and a Mad Men finale to watch. What are you up to this weekend?

The Friday Five

1. Hard Rock Hollywood/VH1 Save the Music:  Last week, I had the opportunity to fill-in for my friend, Leah Cevoli, who co-hosts a VH1 Save the Music event each Thursday.  VH1 Save the Music raises money to bring back instrumental music education in public schools.  They have raised $48 million for 1800 schools in over 100 cities. Pretty impressive, right?  To learn more about the program, click here.  I also want to thank Jimmy Alvarez of TNN Radio for the photos.

2. Up All Night:  I spent my Tuesday night at the Paley Center interviewing the cast of NBC's freshman comedy, Up All Night for Red Carpet Report.  At the time, they still haven't heard if they were getting a Season 2 pick-up (They are!), but they were in rare form on Tuesday night.  Insider scoop, Christina Applegate had a makeup stain on her jacket that was pretty noticeable.  She totally didn't care either.  I like that.  I also think Will Arnett is our generation's George Hamilton, he is perpetually tan.  See the interview and the makeup stain below:

3.  Instagram:  My favorite photo of the week:  This is for all of you who my job is always glamorous.  I was sitting on a floor for over an hour waiting with the rest of the media for the cast of Up All Night to arrive.  Sexy, right? (Follow me on Instagram:  @KristynBurtt)

4.  Article:  I always love to share articles with people. It's probably why I love Twitter so much.  I read a great article from Slate Magazine that featured Mad Men costume designer, Janie Bryant, and her overall vision for Season 5 of the show.  Take a gander here.

5.  Lip Gloss:  I have a new lip gloss to recommend:  Buxom Lips.  I know many of you try it for its lip plumping qualities to get your inner Angelina Jolie on, but here's why I like it:  No Parabens, sulfates, Phthalates, GMOs, or Triclosan.  That means, no crap went into making this lip gloss.  I purchased "Dolly" which is a muted plum. It's pretty awesome and you can buy it at Sephora for $18.

Have a great weekend, you can always follow my weekend adventures on Twitter or Facebook.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway which ends Wednesday, May 16th.

Or Shop My Closet.  It's spring cleaning time and I'm selling my some of my wardrobe.

Shop N' Style with Sydne Summer and Ted Baker--London

Me and my pal, Julie...

Last night, I was invited to a fashion event hosted by Sydne Summer of Synde Style over at Ted Baker of London.  The invitation promised champagne, music, a candy bar, and a look at Ted Baker's summer collection.  I promised myself I wouldn't shop for anything, but that quickly went out the window when I tried on this amazing dandelion dress.  The print was unlike anything I have ever seen before and somehow the dress wound up in a shopping bag heading home with me.  Here's a look at the colorful evening and some of the Ted Baker summer line.  To get a closer look, head over to their website:  Ted Baker-London.

You can also see Sydne's coverage of the event here. (Check out photo #11 in the slideshow.)

I'm a little obsessed with the Volkan bowler bag. Must have!

 The colorful candy bar!

My new Charles David shoes that I purchased at the last fashion event I attended.

My new Ted Baker dress!  It's hard to see, but the dandelion print is on the skirt. Love.

The colorful separates we tried on at Ted Baker.

Oops, I bought the dress!  (Remember my ASOS yellow clutch from last summer?  I brought it back out.)

Sydne Summer in a gorgeous orange Ted Baker maxi dress.

So Mad Men, right?  The perfect Trudy dress.

I was invited to this event by BWR Public Relations.  I was given 20% off all clothing as part of the promotional event.  All opinions and thoughts are mine.

Angeleno Magazine's Generation Next Spring Fashion Event

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to catch Angeleno Magazine's spring fashion event at the Westfield Topanga Mall in Los Angeles.  My day started at the fashion show where Angeleno Magazine's Fashion Style Editor, Elizabeth Varnell, helmed the latest spring fashions with two trend experts.  I am always interested in dresses for the red carpet, so I was thrilled to find a Mad Men-inspired black and white dress by Betsey Johnson and a pair of black and natural wedges by Charles David on the runway.  Both of those items wound up in my shopping bag after the event.  After the show, I was treated to a manicure by Venetian Spa and a makeover by Heaven's Makeup Bar to complete my new look.  To end the day, I hit the VIP Lounge for a cocktail and treats by Kate Mantilini and Snow Monkey Shaved Ice.  Admission to the VIP lounge was pretty easy, all it took was "Like" of Westfield Topanga Mall's Facebook page.

Cute and quirky Betsey Johnson dress in a bird print....look closely, those are birds.

If this sounds like a fun day to you, hit the Westfield Fashion Square Mall in Sherman Oaks this Saturday, May 5th from 1-6PM for all of the complimentary beauty and fashion fun.  Here's an insider tip for you too:  if you buy $500 worth of merchandise, you also get a gift with purchase.  Guess who received two free tickets to Cirque du Soleil's Iris at the Kodak Theatre?  Yep, I'll tell you all about it after the show on May 17th.

I loved this spring dress with a pop of color from Macy's.

This model had the perfect body for the jumpsuit silhouette.  I'm jealous.

I bought this right off of the runway, a Betsey Johnson polka dot dress that is featured on the home page of her website.  I can't wait to wear it to my next big event.

Here I am shopping right off of the runway again, I bought those incredible Charles David "Letti" wedges for the summer.  Dress by Angl.

So many fun color choices, but I went with......

 ........purple instead.

Oh man, the "before" pictures are never fun, but here you go.

This is what I looked like after my makeover by Heaven's Makeup Bar.  I also took a fun picture with my makeup artist that is posted on my Facebook page. Check it out here

Ahhh, cocktails in the VIP lounge: The Mark Alberto Tequila Traveler prepared a "Spring Day in Mexcio" drink:
Casa Noble Reposado Tequila
Lime Juice
Ginger Beer
Fresh Stevia
Fresh Ginger
Dried Hibiscus Garnish

I'm a little obsessed with the yellow Vitamin Water. It's been a three-year addiction.

I was invited to this event by a PR Firm, but all opinions posted above are mine. The event is free and open to the public.
