DWTS Season 19: Serge Onik
We're back! It was so much fun to be back in studio with Anna Trebunskaya and Suri Serano after a long summer away. Jake DuPree will be back for our Sept. 30 show, but in the meantime, SYTYCD's Serge Onik is doing a great job at filling in.
I wasn't too sure about this season. I didn't love the contestants, but Monday night's show proved that we are going to have fun this season with some unexpected choices. I'm excited by the possibilities…
Next week: Serge is in for Jake and Elena Grinenko is our guest. If you heard me say new pro Keo Motsepe is on next week, that was my mistake. He will be on our Sept. 30 show. I read the email wrong and I clearly have no concept of time.
We are on at Wednesday at 5 p.m. next week on AfterBuzz TV.

Jane Milne's Set Visit to AfterBuzz TV
It's not often that I have guest bloggers on my site, but I always welcome when a friend has a great post to share. Jane Milne came to visit the AfterBuzz TV set during Season 18 of Dancing With the Stars after submitting the winning bid for a charity set visit for Mental Fitness. We will be partnering up with them again in the fall, so I thought sharing her post would give you an inside glimpse of what her visit was like. We had so much fun with her that day! Thanks again, Jane…those Tim Tams were delicious!
As many of you know, in April, I was lucky enough to visit the set of AfterBuzz TV for the recording of the Dancing with the Stars after show. Many of you have been asking how this came about. This is my story...
Earlier this year I booked a two week holiday to America, visiting friends in Chicago and travelling onto Las Vegas to meet up with another fellow Aussie. Together we did our version of a 'shopping tour' of both Vegas and LA. Prior to leaving Australia, AfterBuzz TV and Kristyn Burtt teamed up with Mental Fitness, a mental health charity whose mission is to build mental fitness in all youth through arts-based awareness and prevention programs. The auction was advertised on Twitter, via Kristyn's twitter handle, @kristynBurtt and also on her blog. Prior to bidding I made sure with Kristyn that I was the one who could choose when the visit would take place as I knew that I would only have one set Tuesday that I could possibly visit the studio. Kristyn was very quick to respond to all of my inquiries about item up for auction, the charity and any queries that I had regarding the entire situation.
I was fortunate to win the auction, providing a donation to a charity that as a school teacher, I believe is an essential asset having seen the effects of mental health issues with children on a daily basis in Australia. I believe that 'the arts' provide an outlet for children to channel and express feelings and emotions.
After successfully winning the auction, Kristyn was quickly in touch with me, arranging the date for my visit and even asking who my ultimate guests would be and providing me with travel options to and from the studio. I cannot thank Kristyn enough for how easy she made the entire process prior to my visit.
During the week prior to my visit, Kristyn continually kept me in the loop about who was going to be in studio on the Tuesday, making sure that I had everything organized to travel to and from and reassuring me that when I arrive on set that I was indeed in the correct location.
After a successful two weeks of travelling around Chicago, Vegas and LA, my last 24 hours in America rolled around. It was a bittersweet day for me as I would be lucky enough to be visiting the set of AfterBuzz, meeting the incredible hosts and meeting a fellow Aussie in Henry Byalikov. Yet, it also signified the end of an incredible trip.
At around 11:30 a.m., I received several tweets from both Kristyn and Suri making sure I was ready for the visit and letting me know what traffic was like that day. Around 30 minutes later, Suri tweeted me again saying that if I am early not to worry as she was already at the studio, so if I wanted to leave even earlier and come and hang out at the studio and re-watch the episode with her it was more than okay. Suri organized for the other staff members in the studio to bring me to her upon my arrival. Knowing that I would be meeting up with Suri as soon as I got to the studio, I soon found myself ready to leave my hotel and braced myself mentally preparing to head out into Julz's dreaded LA traffic.
It is no wonder he is always late, the 101 is insane, especially for the girl who lives in a town with a population of 300 (and that's including the outlying properties/farms) I am pretty sure there were that many people sitting in the traffic! Luckily for me the trip from where I was staying to the studio didn't take as long as it often can, only taking 45 minutes and not the hour and a half I had allowed.
Upon arriving at the studio the first thing I noticed was how friendly everyone at AfterBuzz TV was. From memory the first words the staff said to me were, "Oh you must be Jane from Australia, you're here for the Dancing with the Stars show aren't you, welcome! I think Suri said she would be in the theatre room and she's waiting for you."
The next thing I know I am walking thought the studio and into the theatre room where Suri jumps out of her seat and yells "I can't believe you're finally here!", along with several other rapid fire questions about my trip to the studio and around America. To say that I felt extremely welcome would the understatement of the year! After sitting with Suri, thinking to myself is this really happening, while watching and talking about several of the dances, Kristyn arrived at the studio. At this stage I think several "I can't believe you are here" and "I can't believe I am sitting here with you both" escaped from our mouths. After several minutes of Dancing with the Stars-related chat, a familiar, homely accent could be heard coming into the theatre.
The next thing I knew the door busts open and in walks the one and only Henry Byalikov, a man whose dance career I have followed since he reached the Top 8 on So You Think You Can Dance Australia. I recommend you YouTube his routines, he was a different looking Henry back then! Henry quickly announces that he has literally just come from rehearsals and needs to change, all whilst ripping black tape from his clothes, covering any brands/labels. After a quick chat with Kristyn and Suri, I was introduced to Henry, the reaction that you can see on a person's face when they hear the familiarity your own accent always manages to surprise me and bring a smile to my face. Somehow, this familiar sound always manages to create an instant connection, a taste of home. After a quick conversation about my home town with Henry, Anna soon arrived, let me tell you if you think she is gorgeous on the TV, she is absolutely stunning in person!
Before I knew it we were entering the studio and settling down into our chairs, all while Henry was sharing on popcorn; conversing with Anna in what I can only assume was Russian; passing comments on any and every given topic; asking everyone, myself included, questions and making jokes. Before I knew it, it was suddenly go time! I honestly did not expect to be on camera at all during my visit let alone be asked questions by all of the panel talk about being put on the spot! If only Kristyn had warned me, especially in regards to the Abby Lee Miller question! My personal dislike for her stems purely from her teaching methodologies and pedagogy, as a teacher I create an environment where "failure" or "not achieving" something first time around is okay. Whereas long as you learn something from that experience you haven't failed per se. I create a learning space where children know that they are valued and their talent can be developed. There is a difference between discipline & high expectations of your students and abuse & and being a downright b*#€h.
Whether this is her real personality or a character she plays I personally wonder if that is really the way you wish for the world to see you considering it is a 'Reality' show. At the end of the day my opinions are just that, my own and whether you agree with me or not is your own business. As for guest judges, I would love to see Shirley Ballas behind that desk! Almost every dancer on every version of the show has been taught by this incredible dancer, choreographer and teacher. I think that Shirley would be an incredible addition to the esteemed panel of judges currently holding the chairs on Dancing with the Stars both in America and around the world.
It is amazing how fast time flies when you are in studio, when watching an episode the predictions seem to come around really quickly, but when you are actually in studio it is all over in the blink of an eye. One minute we were settling into studio discussing how we felt about the theme, Party Rock Anthems, and the next thing I knew we were "buzzing you later".
For me personally, the entire experience was worth every penny! I would recommend the process to every and any fan of both AfterBuzz TV and Dancing with the Stars. I was recently asked if I would have enjoyed the experience as much if there weren't any professional dancers on my episode and my answer to this was YES! My love of dance is not based upon any specific dancer, do I have people that I love to watch, of course, but I watch every dance because I love dance. At the end of the day I don't watch for the competition side of the show, I watch Dancing with the Stars to see moving art, to see stories being brought to life through movement and music. I watch weekly to see amazing costumes, theatrical makeup and DANCE!
For me the winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy isn't important, I couldn't care how many times anyone specifically has won the trophy because for me the true winner in is the public! For every season that exists the entire world is given the opportunity to access the arts at their best, something that was once only accessible to those in major cities and with the funds to attend such events. The American version of Dancing with the Stars would have to be hands down my favourite version of the show from anywhere in the world. The calibre of talent on the show is insane and I am not just talking about the professional dancers!
In short, if I were provided the opportunity to once again attend a recording of AfterBuzz TV's Dancing with the Stars show, I would be there in a heartbeat. The entire experience, for me, was the perfect way to conclude my holiday. As a result of this visit I have made some incredible friends in both Suri and Kristyn, I was given the opportunity to meet some amazing people including the incredibly gifted dancers that Henry and Anna are and I was lucky enough to meet the creators of AfterBuzz TV, Maria Menounos and Kevin Undergaro, all thanks to Kristyn.
I can't guarantee that if you were to win a set visit via auction like I did that you too would have the exact experience that I had when I visited the studio. For me, I personally had pre-existing relationships, with Kristyn, Suri, Julz and even Jake even if they were only via twitter! Kristyn and Suri I cannot thank you both enough for making my visit so amazing. You are both such amazing women who I am lucky enough to now call my friends. I hope to be able to return to America again soon, visit my beautiful friends at AfterBuzz and maybe, just maybe I will be lucky enough to attend a live taping of the show and see the amazing production that is Dancing with the Stars with my own two eyes, live in studio!
Until next time,
xoxo

DWTS Season 18: Elena Grinenko, Part 2
Second to last show of the season and it was a wild one. I think we all agree Meryl will win that Mirror Ball Trophy and I won't be upset about it. She had an incredible season. I felt more connected to Amy's journey, but she's going on to great things so I am not worried about her. I know I put James in second place. I don't think I really believe that's how it will play out, it's just me making a ridiculous prediction for a ridiculous season when it comes to manipulation and scoring.
A big thanks for Elena Grinenko for stepping in at the last minute when Lindsay Arnold couldn't make it. Grinya always offers a insider's perspective on Meryl, Charlie and Maks that we would never have otherwise.
Who is going to win that MBT? Let me know in the comments below!

AfterBuzz TV DWTS Season 18: Chelsie Hightower
I am so glad you all enjoyed Chelsie Hightower as a guest. Yep, she speaks her mind. Yep, we would love to have her back, but remember it took us four seasons to get her on. It's not easy to work around her busy schedule and she is no longer living in California. I know a lot of you want her in our studio each week, but let's just try for next season first.
This is the time of the season when it gets hard to say goodbye to the contestants. Everyone is worthy, everyone is talented, but only the Top 3 will be there to show off their freestyle dance. We spent a lot of time on Charlie-gate and I understand how frustrated you are about the judging situation….it's annoying. Carrie Ann Inaba is getting quite an earful on her Twitter account. Let me know your thoughts on Charlie-gate in the comments below.
If you missed the show, watch it below:

AfterBuzz TV DWTS Season 18: Henry Byalikov
The Party Anthem week was eh-okay to me. I am looking forward to Latin Week with Ricky Martin. Now that's what I call exciting! Drew exited this week which I was sad about since he made a huge impression on me personality-wise.
I called NeNe again for an exit next week, but a few people made a strong case for Candace (No! I'm not ready for her to leave yet.) exiting.
Who do you think will leave? Let me know in the comments below.

DWTS Season 18: Gleb Savchenko
What a show! Everyone was hyped up with enthusiasm that I had to quiet the crowds a bit so we could get through 12 dances, new baby, new hosts, smaller band, skybox back, judges' table, voting procedures, etc. It was a lot of material for a 50-minute show.
It will get easier as the weeks go on, but we are thrilled to have Julz Tocker joining us this season. A big thanks to Gleb Savchenko for adding his "I loved it!" commentary from the couch. First elimination next week…do you agree with our predictions?
Let me know in the comments below!

DWTS Season 18 on AfterBuzz TV
We also have a host change for Season 18 only. Jake DuPree is unable to join us for Season 18 due to a scheduling conflict. He will be back for Season 19 because we all love him so much on our team. Filling in for Jake this season will be a face many of you are familiar with…Julz Tocker! He has graciously decided to step in and help us out. Suri Serano and Anna Trebunskaya will be back, so while we will miss Jake, Julz will add a lot of insight to our team. Make sure to give Julz a big AfterBuzz TV welcome!
Our first guest will be announced soon. You can always keep checking the DWTS Guest Page for more information. UPDATE: First guest is announced!

PHOTOS: Anna Trebunskaya's Baby Shower
Anna and her gorgeous mom Irina.
If you missed Anna Trebunskaya's big news, make sure to head over to Life & Style to hear whether she is having a boy or girl.
Here are a few personal photos from her baby shower on Wednesday. We can't wait to have Baby Trebunskaya join the AfterBuzz team.
Congratulations, Anna! You are going to be a great momma!

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Tristan MacManus
I think it's the most guest-heavy season we've ever had. For those of you who have been around since Season 15 when it was just me and Suri, you know how far we've come. We are still a work in progress, but I loved how our team really jelled this season. Anna and Jake were great additions to AfterBuzz in Season 16 and we hope to all be back together (with Baby Trebunskaya!) in Season 18.
Thank you for all of your comments and support. It means a lot to us. We have worked hard to bring you the best shows possible. So, here's to Season 18.
Have a great holiday season and see you all in March!

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: The Finale Preview
We have so much to talk about tomorrow on AfterBuzz TV, so I am going to open the forum to you. We are not having any guests, just the AfterBuzz team talking about the Top 4 dances and the season in general. If you have a hot topic you want us to talk about, let me know in the comments below.
Just a reminder that our show is live tomorrow at 2pm PT at AfterBuzz TV. We can't wait to hear from all of you!

My Thoughts on DWTS This Week: Just The Facts
I am actually going to leave emotion out of it as much as possible because no one wins on either side of the argument. Here are the facts:
1. The lead host for AfterBuzz TV books the guests, in most cases. The weeks I have been out of town, Suri has held down the fort and secured guests for us. I am working in Florida this week and Tony Dovolani kindly agreed to come on the show.
2. He is the ONLY pro who has come on twice very late in the season. Season 15, Week 6 and this week. The only other pro to come on while she was still on the show was Sharna Burgess during Season 16, Week 1. It is very difficult to come in the middle of their season, week 1 or week 9. We are grateful to anyone who takes the time out to appear on our show…but the extra effort late in the game is more than appreciated.
3. While many of you were upset, there were many who were happy to see our guests this week. Thank you for your kind words. We try to appeal to all sides of DWTS…and there are many sides as you all know.
4. I have a pretty thick skin, but others do not and some of your words really hurt them. It made me sad to see my friends and co-hosts feeling so down. We are a team…we rise and fall together. They all know I love them very much and they have my support.
5. We always take your comments into consideration for our show. However, if a pro becomes available mid-season while they are still competing, we want them on the show--no matter what.
You are welcome to leave comments here on my blog. I won't be able to comment on Twitter or other places since my work schedule is nuts this week. I hope you all understand.
Everyone will be back in studio and we will be working hard to deliver the best show possible to you for Week 10. See you all on Tuesday!

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Witney Carson & Lindsay Arnold
It has been four weeks since the entire AfterBuzz TV crew was in studio together. It was a rowdy night in the studio! From Witney's mom calling in to Anna giving some on point critiques, it was anything but boring. A few of you have asked if Suri was implying that the producers manipulated the exit of Snooki. None of us have any concrete evidence, but it sure feels that way.
As for Bill Engvall, he has proven to be the most loved man this season. Witney and Lindsay talked about how sweet he is and the fact that he was willing to sacrifice his own journey to save Snooki says a lot about his character.
The article I referred to from E! News is here.
After you read that, read Val's Today Show blog for follow-up information here.
Thanks to Witney Carson and Lindsay Arnold for joining us. I love that their friendship has taken them on such an incredible adventure. Fingers crossed that their schedule will work out for a visit to AfterBuzz for a Season 11 SYTYCD appearance.
Next week's guest is Tyne Stecklein.

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Henry Byalikov
Suri did a great job of leading the way last night, but I missed being in studio with the crew. I know Anna and I have a tough schedule this month and we are going to keep missing each other. However, I am glad AfterBuzz TV is allowing us to join by phone. Even if it was all the way from Canada, it was worth it to join the discussion. A big thanks to Henry Byalikov for stepping in again as our guest!
I will be back in studio next week and our guest is Gleb Savchenko. This will be his first appearance on DWTS on AfterBuzz TV, so I think it should be a great night in the studio.
We didn't get a chance to discuss it, but what did you think of the opening number this week? I am a fan of Ray Leeper's work, but this didn't hit the mark. The contestants were introduced in a lackluster way and the number didn't use the stage well. I did like the judges coming out from behind the desk to join the fun though.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Sharna Burgess & Lindsay Arnold
My SheKnows.com article about the DWTS finale >>
I know many of you aren't satisfied with the voting explanation. ABC should have done a better job with explaining what happened much like NBC did with The Voice when they had a similar issue in early May. Legally, they did the right thing by throwing out the ABC.com votes. It leveled the playing field for both coasts. While viewers were left with phone, text, and Facebook votes, I know some of you will argue it isn't fair. Well, I can never text since I'm not an AT&T customer.....so that's not fair. I also only have a public FB page, so I cannot vote via social media. I have to pick up the phone. We could go in circles about this over and over. Remember, all networks have to abide by FCC regulations and Broadcast Standards and Practices. Here are ABC's guidelines for their entire network. What ABC failed to do is explain the situation to the viewers...that is a PR misstep.
Our pre-show Vine video >>
I also think Lindsay and Sharna addressed the footwear issue very well. There are so many other issues to deal with when you are trying to teach a celebrity to dance. While it may not be the preferable choice for viewers with a dance background, the pros chose what they felt was best for their celebs. I prefer the line of a heel, but once I heard Lindsay and Sharna's explanations, I feel like I understand the reasoning a bit better...even if I prefer true ballroom footwear.
One crazy photo post-show >>
Thank you all for such a great season. We really cannot do it without you. Your input, comments, questions and artful debate have been so much fun. Even when we don't agree, I love discussing the show with you. For those of you that are fans of SYTYCD, I hope you join me, Jake, AJ Gibson, and Chloe West for a fun season. Next week, we will slide into DWTS' old time slot on AfterBuzz TV at 9pm PT, so you know where to find us. We will also be bringing in some DWTS and SYTYCD guests to join us once the Top 20 is announced.
The podcast is available to listen to here.
Now feel free to comment away about the season, but be respectful of others and their opinions. Thank you!

AfterBuzz TV's DWTS: Henry Byalikov
This was such a fun show. I'm so glad we had Henry Byalikov back on this season for a second time so he was able to give us the inside scoop on his work with Baz Lurhmann on Gatsby. He's always a great guest and we all know his fans are legendary.
Catch our pre-show Vine video here.
It was our last show with Anna Trebunskaya and we are going to miss her next week. She's been a great addition to the show this season on AfterBuzz TV. However, we do have two pros currently confirmed for next week's show. Be sure to come back here on Tuesday to find out who it is. I am really excited to end the season in a big way. It will be an awesome finish to a fascinating season.

AfterBuzz TV DWTS: Week 9 Preview
We are welcoming back a return guest for us this week on AfterBuzz TV, in honor of the release of the Baz Luhrmann's Gatsby, it's Henry Byalikov. We will have the opportunity to ask him about the film and what it was like working with stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, so get those questions in now! Remember, add them to the comments below.
You can find the AfterBuzz TV DWTS show here, Wednesday at 9pm PT.
Suri, Jake and I are definitely back this week. We are waiting for confirmation from Anna. UPDATE: Anna will be joining us. Hooray!

AfterBuzz TV's DWTS, Week 5: Witney Carson
I personally had more fun on this show versus any other episode we have done so far. Anna and our awesome guest, Witney Carson, did a great job of giving us more inside information than we have ever seen. From learning about Anna's time spent with Zendaya to get her ready for the Tango to Aly's mindset after hearing about the tragic Boston events earlier in the day, Witney and Anna both delivered.
The other thing that has been fun guessing is where Witney will turn up this summer. Most of you seem to think she will be a SYTYCD All-Star on Fox. It's a great guess and it makes a lot of sense.
Finally, we addressed the Zendaya "ringer" comment that has been coming up so much. We discussed it at length. You are welcome to add your thoughts in the comments below and I will definitely respond if you have more to add to the discussion. Otherwise, I think we have exhausted the topic on the show, but let me know if you think we missed something during our debate.
Thank you all for your fan questions. We are trying to incorporate them as much as possible into the show whether it is on the red carpet, via a phone call, or from my blog, I think you all have added so much to our show. It's really amazing!
If you missed the show, you can download it here on iTunes or watch it below.
See you next week!

AfterBuzz TV Week 4 DWTS Preview
There is one thing I want to address that was not in the video...placement of the guests in the studio. We have added to our panel and Jake DuPree and Anna Trebunskaya have done a tremendous job with their thoughts and opinions. It is nice to have an uncensored pro who tells it like it is and who can explain why certain things happened they way they did. With four of us on the panel, that means our guests are on the couch. It is set up like Howard Stern's show. Click here to see an example.
It is not a slight, it is designed to give the guests maximum exposure while we interview them and it creates a clean camera angle for the crew to shoot them. Please understand that while we are the faces of the AfterBuzz TV show, there are many who work tirelessly behind the camera to make this show happen. We want to make it the best show possible for all of you. If you have feedback that I cannot address or you want to take it to the executive producer level, email here: info@afterbuzztv.com
If you missed last week's show, watch it here.
California DWTS fans, click here to read about a DWTS ticket opportunity.
We will see you on Wednesday at 9pm PT on AfterBuzzTV.com
with Anna Trebunskaya, Sean Lowe, Peta Murgatroyd, and Victor Ortiz. (Reminder: Schedules announced guests are subject to change.)
Don't forget to put your questions for Peta, Sean, and Victor in the comments below. We might read your question on the air!

AfterBuzz TV, Dancing with the Stars: Week 2 with Anna Trebunskaya
My notes, gossip, and Twitter page ready for last night's show.
One thing I want to address is our current time slot. Many of you on the East Coast have asked about the time of our show. This season, we are locked into a 9pm PT time slot. This will remain a fixed time for Season 16. I know this is late for most you on the East Coast (I know firsthand, since I was up until after 1am ET chatting with you!) We will definitely take this into consideration for next season, but I want to let you know why we are on so late:
1. AfterBuzz TV is a full working studio with many shows scheduled before and after us. Since Season 16 of DWTS falls mid-season, we have to take the available studio slots.
2. The times that were available were not always convenient for our DWTS guests, so we took the best slot that would make our show more attractive for the pros and celebs to come on our show. If we schedule it too early, we cut into rehearsal time. If we schedule it on a broadcast day, we won't get anyone.
3. AfterBuzz TV actually moved around the schedule to accommodate our 9pm PT slot. Originally, it was going to be at 10pm PT...which is even worse for you East Coasters. So, the crew and I are very grateful that they made this happen.
So, don't worry, we hear you! We will take your comments and suggestions and use them for Season 17. In the meantime, please enjoy last night's broadcast below or download the podcast in iTunes here.
