Of course, the other big reveal was the dress! Congratulations to Lisa Kay for picking out a really cute Eliza J. dress. Major bonus goes to the fact that the dress had unexpected pockets. Total score! It was the perfect place to hide my iPhone. Even Leonard complimented me on the outfit. I call that a win! Lisa gets a $25 gift card to the store of her choice.

Good insights from Mr. Maltin. Biggest snub for me was The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It did exactly what I want in a movie: transported me through the big screen somewhere else while entertaining + inspiring. Sad that it didn't even get a screenplay nod. Or cinematography. Finally saw Saving Mr. Banks and while Emma Thompson had some priceless moments and created a character I wanted to spend more time with, Hanks somehow struck an off note. While there were sections that took flight, too much of it had a pedestrian feel. Paul Giammati was amazing; I wanted more of those scenes and the ones in Australia. Might have to track down a copy of Dallas Buyers Club -- Matthew McConaughey seems to be in the zone. Glad to see Amy Adams get a nod, I was afraid the Jennifer Lawrence aura of awesome would shadow her.
ReplyDeleteWalter Mitty should have picked a different time period for release…maybe October? It was too crowded at Christmas this year. It was crazy. We are also witnessing a change at the Academy. They've brought in more women, ethnic diversity and foreign members…and it's changing the nominations. Five years ago, Hanks would have been a shoo-in for SMB and Captain Phillips.
